Operation 365 Poem: day 39…NYU Mock Trials

NYU Mock Trials

Today I’m Ms. Mendez
A social worker role
Tomorrow I’m Dr. Johnson
Illustrating expert testimony as my goal

Trying not to confuse
The two roles I play
Especially when I have interviews
Back to back on the same day

The case is the same
But I’m assigned to two different teams
One on the prosecutor side
The other on the defense, it seems

I have too much knowledge
Too much scientific fact
That I wouldn’t know as Mendez
And if I spoke of would get me sacked

But its fun to play both
Its also a well paying gig
Just need to remember who I am
When I’m acting and “go big”!

This year has been the worst
In terms of closeness of the trials
Usually I have more time
In between to switch and memorize

Its like being on Law and Order
Its filmed, however this is live
No chances for any re-do’s
But I love theatre so with this I thrive!

Another added bonus
Is what I’ve learned from doing this
I know everything about Chlamydia
From being Johnson, the expert witness!!

So if you have any Chlamydial stories
Come find me to reminisce!!!!

365 ONE: day 46…New Yorkers like Crazy!

Day 46: February 23rd, 2012 = COMPLETE!!!!!

Cardio was = Walking

Dance of the Day was = “Miami” by Will Smith

Improvised Acting Video I uploaded to my other blog was = “700 Gummies”

Anything to Note =

New York City is the perfect place to be an actor….and I don’t mean that in the sense that it’s duh an artistic town, but in the sheer fact that you can go around talking to yourself, like memorizing your lines out loud or getting into character/role in public, and no one thinks anything of it! You don’t need an excuse to be mumbling to yourself on the subway or as you walk down the street, even when you’re standing in line at Starbucks…beacause everyone around you is used to the constant crazy! There is always something crazy around the corner, next to you, staring at you, so as an actor, you fit in quite nicely as IT IS YOU! 🙂

I walked from the office down to NYU today, yes to get my cardio in, but also because it was a chance to practice my role that I was about to interview in for the mock trials. Yesterday I had to play the expert on chlamydia, which I play every year for the mock trials, but today I had to play an additional new role in another mock trial – the ACS case worker. I felt less familiar and less confident with this role just because it was my first time, but thought nothing a good brisk walk, in role, wouldn’t be able to cure 🙂 I often do that for memorization – I am actually luckily a quick memorizer, but doing things like learning lines while at the gym on the elliptical always worked, and in the same vein, walking and speaking out loud helps too (a quick trick to those that need help memorizing…try it!).

It was a little tricky though today as I was leaving while the whole of NYC and their mother were leaving work during rush hour and had to thus weave myself through the hoards of people while still trying to maintain a brisk nature for the cardio sake, and also trying to look down at my notes in hand along the way, while mumbling! AND…hitting Herald Square and Union Square as well as the equally busy West Village area was not fun. It was me multi-tasking. Dizzily, I might add.

And, of course being a true New Yorker. A Crazy. You know, one of them 🙂

365 ONE: day 45…busy long day playing characters

Day 45: February 22nd, 2012 = COMPLETE!!!!!

Cardio was = Walking/Loom Movement/Squats/Lunges/Cross Country Slide Moves

Dance of the Day was = “Good Life” by Inner City

Improvised Acting Video I uploaded to my other blog was = “Doctor Lab”

Anything to Note =

Today was the first day of a couple of weeks of the NYU Mock Trials where every year about this time I play the role of the medical expert witness of Chlamydia! Yup, you heard that right! I literally know everything and anything there is to know about Chlamydia…ask me if you need to know anything 🙂 It’s a lot of work actually but it pays quite well – it feels like a live theatrical Law and Order show! So today I had my first attorney meeting with the NYU law students and you must remain in character through the end of the trial, so anytime I see them or correspond with them for next two weeks, so was in character when I turned on my ipod to do my video upload….not sure what I was doing in the video! ODD. BIZARRE. Hmmmmm…..

This year I am also playing another role in another NYU mock trial as I think an actor bailed, so I must now take off the Chlamydia hat and put on the ACS case worker hat for tomorrow’s meeting and start memorizing that role before I go to bed! Never a dull moment in the house (or mind) of Zoe 🙂

So today I was…me, then admin assistant at work, then expert professor in Chlamydia, then homeless pregnant woman, then me, and now soon an ACS case worker…

Never a dull moment, I tell ya!

Even though our Loom show is not again until Friday we had working rehearsals tonight and then a full run to tweak and adjust here and there ready for another weekend run. I was again able to resort to my old “fit-in-my-365-criteria-backstage” during rehearsal so that was good. I also schmooshed some odd “cardio” in there while the rest of the ensemble were rehearsing vocals and choreography so I was off to the side doing lunge things and squat things and then what I guess I am calling – “cross-country slide moves”….not sure what that really is! I think it was just freezing in the theatre that I was doing all kinds of weirdo moves to keep warm HAHA!!
