365 ONE: day 185…Will I Make The Plane??!!

Day 185: July 11th, 2012 = COMPLETE!!!!!

Cardio was = Walking/Packing/Travelling

Dance of the Day was = “Don’t Dream It’s Over” by Paul Carrack

Improvised Acting Video I uploaded to my other blog was = “Mr. Giraffe”

I am leaving on a jet plane…

I think I’ve mentioned this before in another blog, but it’s funny because Stuart and I are leaving today – Stuart for only two weeks right now – but we’re not flying on the same flight! We leave within 20 minutes of each other from JFK, from different terminals, on different airlines – me on BA and Stuart on Virgin (which is way better!). And we arrive within 20 minutes of each other at Heathrow tomorrow, different terminals.

It worked out cheaper this way as I had to get on a BA flight to be on the same return flight as my mum when I come back to the States, but the cheapest flights were not BA, so Stuart did one of those cheap-not-know-you’re-airline sites and got on Virgin – so that was cool!

So we’ll see each other when we drive to JFK tonight  and then I will see him again when I get picked up tomorrow morning after we arrive! Strange!!

If only we could communicate across the ocean, thousands of miles up in the air!!

If only BBM worked while flying haha!!

I will miss him 🙂

But we get to save money so that’s a bonus!

If I make it to the plane as still haven’t packed and am at the office…..aHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

So this is my last day in America until JANUARY!!!

For just under 6 months!!!

In 2012!!

That’s weird.

Next time I’ll be back in the USA it will be in 2013 with a little schmonkey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

365 ONE: day 168…A Little Gift From The USCIS Fairy…

Day 168: June 24th, 2012 = COMPLETE!!!!!

Cardio was = Walking/Mini Golf

Dance of the Day was = “Be My Lover” by La Bouche

Improvised Acting Video I uploaded to my other blog was = “Green Card Holder”

Anything to Note =

I just got back from being up at Lake Placid for a wedding.

So tired.

It’s so humid here.

So many things to do.

I came home to something so wonderful waiting for me in the mail…

So much for them telling me they were backlogged!!

So much for them telling me to be patient and that I may not get it for 6 months!!

Even the notice that came in the mail said it would take three weeks…but this was literally less than TEN DAYS!!!

Anyway, amazing!

I was fully expected to figure out how to get it to me after I had left the country, and writing a letter of authorization for Stuart to carry it on him etc…

And now there is no need for that 🙂

WOO HOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

365 ONE: day 160…Got Me A Green Card Journey :)

Day 160: June 16th, 2012 = COMPLETE!!!!!

Cardio was = Walking

Dance of the Day was = “Fascinating Rhythm” by Ella Fitzgerald

Improvised Acting Video I uploaded to my other blog was = “Drunk Much???”

Anything to Note =

I still can’t believe I got approved for my Green Card yesterday!!!!

WOO HOO!!!!!!!!!

It only took me 12 years haha!!!!

That’s crazy – I have been in the USA since the year 2000 when I went to Middlebury College in Vermont! And the journey began…

So, it’s been…

~ undergraduate degrees in Vermont on a student visa for three and a half years (as I graduated early hehe!)

~ one year in Maryland/DC on my first OPT work visa that’s a visa granted after any degree work in the USA to work in your fields after your studies are complete

~ graduate degree in NYC for three years on another student visa

~ another one year on an OPT work visa where I stayed in NYC

~ first two-year work visa on my Australian passport (previous student and OPT visas were on my Greek passport) as discovered the E3 work visa available for Australian nationals – thank you Mummy for being Australian! And also registering me at birth for an Australian passport so I could be eligible!

~ another two-year E3 work visa in NYC, making that a total of four years on this type of visa for work

And then….

~ the GREEN CARD!!!

So… it only took 6 VISAS to get here haha 🙂

12 years and 6 visas later haha 🙂

12 years, 6 visas and 1 HUSBAND to get it!! HAHA!!!! Ain’t that the truth 🙂

365 ONE: day 150…Bad Green Card News :(

Day 150: June 6th, 2012 = COMPLETE!!!!!

Cardio was = Walking

Dance of the Day was = “C’est La Vie” by Shania Twain

Improvised Acting Video I uploaded to my other  blog was = “Bad Day”

Anything to Note =

Green Card bad news today – or just not great news.

Of course.

Apparently my case is with security and we don’t know why but there’s a “security check issue” and that could take a little time to resolve or could take a long time to resolve, and hopefully it can BE resolved. We really don’t know why – it could be a number of reasons like:

– they are checking how long I’ve been here

– Stuart’s first marriage

…I mean it could be anything really, but I think it has something to do with the fact that my name is different in each of the passports I have – which is a problem.

Australia misspelled my name from Christina to Christine.

And Greece did what they do and translated the way my name would be spelled in Greek with Greek letters, to an English version so instead of Zoe its Zoi!

I also think my last name is missing an S in my Greek passport as when spelled out in Greek there is only one S but in English it’s two so it should be Anastassiou and instead its Anastasiou.

And of course my birth certificate doesn’t match any of those. The British passport however got it right – the only one!

I’ve also been on visas for my undergraduate and graduate schooling in the USA and then now on my work visa based off these misspellings so on record I must have a bunch of different names.

I think this must be my “security check issue” as I remember in my interview, amid the nausea and the last-seen-of-the-day-rush, the woman interviewing me did mention she had a lot to do in regards to my names and such – jokingly – but I am pretty sure of that now that I think about it more. So I have a feeling that’s whats the issue or the delay.

If they are waiting for something like Greece to verify me from my passport or something then that will be a huge delay since they are in chaos and I can’t imagine them responding quickly at all right now especially.

There’s nothing I can really do.

I have set up a meeting for June 15th anyway since we were to know more on June 5th and then perhaps I could have my passport stamped if I was approved by then, but that’s before we found out this today. However, I am going to go in on the 15th anyway to see them face to face and discuss. I am not sure they can do anything or even say anything as security means they would have passed it on to another department, but I can inquire at least, in person, and see. I don’t know.

I can find out the last date I can travel while pregnant from my doctor Friday as have a check-up then so I have a true deadline, and then can perhaps make another appointment just before then to go in if I am still here, in case by then they can stamp my passport for travel. That will mean moving my July 11th flight and Greece mini trip, but what can I do.

Step by step.

Let’s see what happens June 15th. If anything.

It’s just upsetting as this is all legit.

365 ONE: day 149…Walk Slowly Extreme-o!

Day 149: June 5th, 2012 = COMPLETE!!!!!

Cardio was = Walking

Dance of the Day was = “C’era Un Regazzo” by Gianni Morandi

Improvised Acting Video I uploaded to my other blog was = “Singing Bathroom Art”

Anything to Note =

There has to be some sort of law that construction work can’t start before 8am! And I must find it!! Or if there isn’t then there should be! UGH!!!

This whole new slower walking pace to avoid this stupid tendon pain is simply annoying! And quite the test for me as extreme girl to not push forward and compete with my fellow New Yorkers passing me left right and center!

It’s also a test of my patience of taking longer to get to a place and being ok with that – being ok with being stuck with the masses and not zooming around to pass them as I would usually do.

People with four-inch heels are walking faster than me!!

What’s really frustrating  is that this new pace means I keep hitting the lights at every street and every block! SUPER annoying! UGH!!

This slow pace gave me time to think about things – mostly how much I have to do! But also just think.

Today, my mind was on Lindsay, our intern at the office, as she saw something horrible while on her run across the George Washington Bridge on Sunday. Poor Lindsay saw a guy jump off the ledge to his death at 10am Sunday. Strangely we drove over that bridge a few hours after that coming back from Vermont and our conversation in the car was about jumpers off bridges. Weird. Freaky. Surreal.

It really shook up Lindsay.

Lindsay, my thoughts are with you 😦

365 ONE: day 142…What Friggin’ Time Is It???!!!!

Day 142: May 29th, 2012 = COMPLETE!!!!!

Cardio was = Tech for Show/Running Around/On Feet/Theatre Set-Up for Show

Dance of the Day was = “Kalos Se Vrika” by N Stavento

Improvised Acting Video I uploaded to my other blog was = “Too Bright”

Anything to Note =

Besides the fact that I am writing this at friggin’ 6.15am!!!

Today is tech for the show tonight. I have to take the props in my car and pick up more props on the Upper West Side at 7.30am to be at the Theatre by 8am.

So alarm was set for 6.30am as I had everything prepared last night.

What time did I wake, and then not be able to go back to sleep….5.30am!!!!!!!!

I mean, I am having troubles sleeping anyway, went to bed late getting things sorted out for today, but also because I just can’t seem to go to sleep early anyway, and waking up several times an hour as my “routine” these days in pregnancy….and then on top of all that I have to wake up an HOUR early!!!!

Why does that happen?? Why, when you have to get up super early do you wake before the alarm goes off??!!!

Wasn’t that why the Snooze button was invented??? To ease you to wake up?? For those that just can’t wake up when the alarm goes off?? Why couldn’t that be my scenario this morning???!!!

Super annoying.

And I tried so hard to just get in a comfortable position and fall back asleep – it was a lost cause.

Hence why I am writing my blog this early and did some 365 already. This is going to be a loooooooong day and I won’t be done until at least 11pm or later so have a loooooooong way to go, so I guess it’s good that I am writing this now and did some 365 already. The rest will be done along in the day.

And the best part of what lies ahead is I can’t have any coffee or the amount of coffee I would need to get by today…thanks to no caffeine while pregnant.

Woo Hoo! Let’s see how I make it through the day!!

365 ONE: day 111…Waiting and Floating…

Day 111: April 28th, 2012 = COMPLETE!!!!!

Cardio was = Walking/Bar Dancing

Dance of the Day was = “Roxanne” by The Police

Improvised Acting Video I uploaded to my other blog was = “Stuart The Chef”

Anything to Note =

Not much today actually.

I waited for the mail to see how it would dictate my day and weekend. And….still nothing. Still no green card 😦

So, since I was still here then I felt guilty so had to attend my “If-I-am-still-here” plans I had tentatively made in case I was. But I got to see my good friend from the UK again, and go to my friend’s birthday and see others there – so there was a silver lining to being here 🙂

It just feels weird.

You know what else feels weird? That it’s my birthday next week!!! I thought it was in two weeks or something!!!! I wasn’t supposed to be here for it so I guess I just blanked out what date it is and how that is in relation to when my birthday is.

Or it’s a part of my denial….of everything!

I like how I explained to Stuart in the cab home that I had no clue it was my birthday next week, just forgot it was coming up so soon, and Stuart said:

“You’ll only be 31 years young” – implying that the age is why I have a problem and forgot it. And I thought about it. Yeah, 31 I guess is a little ugh but…

“I think I have bigger things to worry about!” I said. Which is TRUE!!!!!!!!

SO TRUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

365 ONE: day 107…Busy Bee-tlejuice

Day 107: April 24th, 2012 = COMPLETE!!!!!

Cardio was = Walking

Dance of the Day was = “The Fittest of the Fittest” by Burning Spear

Improvised Acting Video I uploaded to my other blog was = “Times Square Tourist”

Anything to Note =

Surprise surprise – busy day!! Had work, where I was training two people, then rehearsal, then a presentation at The Actors Studio, then a production meeting for a project I’m co-producing  but also was cast in as an understudy for one of the celebrity roles, and then trivia, where I had planned to leave early, but just got home now! NON-STOP!!!

Well, I was supposed to have left tonight “on a jet plane” or tomorrow morning at least, but still a-waiting on me green card argh (said of course in Pirate language!!…not sure why…wow, I must be super tired!) Apparently I still have 19 official days left in which they can still send it to me before we can have an investigation. So it’s still a waiting game. I only have until May 7th otherwise I don’t have a break until sometime in June with the projects I am involved with 😦

I’m exhausted 😦 It has been non-stop since before the summer last year with the wedding planning, wedding, plays and projects, and then not being able to leave the country…

Caribbean anyone?

365 ONE: day 104…Bolt Bus Bust!

Day 104: April 21st, 2012 = COMPLETE!!!!!

Cardio was = Walking with Bags in Rain

Dance of the Day was = “Lambada” by Kaomo

Improvised Acting Video I uploaded to my other blog was = “On Set At Eden Valley”

Anything to Note =

It was a Bolt Bus day. And annoying trips both on my way to my filmshoot in Baltimore MD and back to NYC. Plus it was a long day as my bus left near Madison Square Gardens at 7.45am and then had to be on the 7.45pm back, which meant I was up at 6am and didn’t get back home until after Midnight. Ugh.

Both on the way there and back of course someone chooses me to sit next to when both bus trips the bus was not full! Always happens. I must have a sign on my forehead or a low maintenance vibe. You can see why they chose me when you look at what the other people are doing – sitting on the aisle and putting their belongings on the seat near the window so taking up both seats. I can’t do that. I think that’s a bit of a jackass thing to do, so I couldn’t do that.

I was so tired so I tried to sleep on the way out there – why I thought I could sleep on a bus when I can’t sleep well in my own bed was beside me, but tried – and you guessed it…..failed. I’m having issues with being uncomfortable these days – can’t sleep as am uncomfortable, after I eat I feel uncomfortable, so naturally on the bus I felt uncomfortable. My bum was uncomfortable! Was wearing flowy trousers in order to BE comfortable and the seats were leather so I kept sliding down them! It was super annoying! Thought it was me slipping down while trying to sleep but bum hurt again on the way back without me doing anything – so I don’t know! The Bolt Bus seats did not agree with me! It makes me wonder though about flying and whether I will have a problem sitting in those airplane seats for long periods of time too. Ugh I hope not!

Well I would have stood for the two 3.5 hour bus rides but I could not justify that as part of my “no sitting on public transportation” 365 criteria as that really is for in-city commuter transport, AND ummmmm that would be CRAZY!

Would have typed this up and done my video upload to youtube with the free wifi on the Bolt Bus but it was horribly slow! And kept kicking me off, so gave up.

AND I lost my water bottle on the Bolt Bus on the way back, so was soooo thirsty!

Clearly the Bolt Bus experience, my first, was not the highlight of the day!

What was the highlight was arriving on set as it was gorgeous. I got in a little early after all that so there I was on a porch of a house with a purple door listening to just nature in the woods – amazing! It was too bad I couldn’t just sun tan all day and not have to get into white makeup to play the mother dying of cancer 😦

Another highlight – two bees mated on the chair next to me on the porch haha! And I managed to get a photo of it although only had my blackberry on me annoyingly at the time and not my ipod to video or get a good shot, so here is what I got…

(sidenote: just had to re-type the whole blog as tried to save time by typing some of my post on my blackberry and then copied and pasted it thinking it would save me some time as its so late and it wouldn’t friggin’ format – so thank you Stuart for reading it out for me to re-type directly into wordpress…..an end to annoying day!!!!!!!!!!)

(Oh and another sidenote quickly – had dinner with a good friend from the UK yesterday and I said I would mention and thus tag her as part of my 365 but had already written yesterday’s blog so this is a shout out to you Jemma Withers!!)

365 ONE: day 78…Green Card Interview Today!

Day 78: March 26th, 2012 = COMPLETE!!!!!

Cardio was = Walking

Dance of the Day was = “Let’s Get Ready To Rumble” by Jock Jams

Improvised Acting Video I uploaded to my other blog was = “Green Card Practice Game”

Anything to Note =

Had to get in all my 365 early today as had my Green Card interview in the afternoon and  who knew how long that would take…a while it turned out, so good I got things done!

I did my dance in my kitchen this morning to not wake Stuart up as he was still sleeping. The song I picked was funny as it went through a mix of 80’s and 90’s classic dance songs as a remix. I wasn’t expecting that at all! Not sure where that song came from really and how that got on my ipod! But I do have a load of random songs that I downloaded in the last period of free Napster in like a crazy frenzy! So I put a lot of songs that pop up that make me go “Hmmmm” to that era back in College! 🙂

Ah the days of free Napster!

Today being the Green Card interview day of course also inspired my video upload – where I tested myself on random questions that came up from these weird Conversation Cards we own (these were a contribution to our games by Stuart….weird card game Stuart!) I guess Stuart will have to watch my video upload to see how well I did, but I do remember saying Tottenham Hotspurs a lot as my answers 🙂

How can you go wrong in saying Stuart’s favourite football team??!!

And since the Green Card schedule and interview seemed to have inspired the rest of my 365 then it also seemed appropriate that it inspired my cardio…walking back from the interview to home, in the freezing wind might I add!!! Crazy cold out! Was not dressed appropriately for that. And was in my boots so the walking was slower than it would normally be.

And I was super hungry and feeling woozy as they took away my snacks once we entered the Homeland Security building 😦 And then had to wait  couple of hours fighting the nausea. 😦

So folks, cross your fingers for me that there were no problems and I get my Green Card in the mail and soon!
