The heat index today was 105!!

Today and tomorrow there’s been a heat warning issued! Great! That’s all I need!!

It was one of those “wipe the sweat off your upper lip” days!

I had to speed walk to catch the subway this morning to make it to my glucose screening test I had that was early, and boy was I wiping the sweat away after that mad dash! I tried to put on the loosest clothing but had no time this morning so ended up wearing some preggo clothes that were given to me from a friend, but they are huge – so not only do I look like a giant sack of potatoes BUT was one of those sweato’s on the subway, that you watch sweat drip down, and don’t necessarily want to be too close to them in the rush hour squeeze 😦

Don’t you just love it when you feel sweat drip down your back! Or better yet, gather in between your boobs!!

YUMMY!!

Then of course the flip side to that is then you freeze when you go anywhere as the A/C is on – and in the USA it is pounding in ever store/place you go, like the waiting room at Quest Diagnostics I had to wait 3 hours in to complete my test!! Hot then COLD!!

It was for my glucose testing this morning, that is a routine 26 weeks pregnancy test, where I had to be fasting the last two days with no simple carbs or processed sugar, and then nothing after midnight last night, and they take blood three times, once an hour. After the first blood draw they give you a bright orange drink to down as fast as you can – it was disgusting! But had to be done! The biggest problem is fighting the nausea and wooziness as you can’t eat or drink water from midnight, and I get nauseous anyway with an empty stomach let alone now even more so while pregnant, so by the third hour  I was in the corner trying to get through. Ugh. Not fun. They tell you to pack a snack to eat after you’re done with this test so you know this must happen a lot.

The waiting room did feel like I was in a play though with the noise of the door creaking open as new people came in, the sign-in routine, and the characters – there were many! I captured a bit on my video upload – no words necessary! Just watching is intriguing and tells a story, or several stories.

People are so fascinating to watch in a waiting room!

Today was my Green Card inquiry appointment!

I couldn’t sleep at all of course last night! I actually had weird dreams with me being pregnant and not a part of certain groups that had all my friends in it! That was the recurring theme of the evening – that I was left out of things because I was pregnant – great! Sad 😦

Anyway, wearing my most pregnant looking outfit, I arrived this morning for my inquiry appointment. So I was first seen by one of the clerks and relayed him my inquiry – that I was pregnant, that there was a deadline with flying, that my attorney had called up to relay this and she had been told that there was a “security check issue” and can I help with anything, or what does “security check issue” mean…

He said my file was with the woman who interviewed me and she was upstairs. Could I wait for an hour or so as she is currently working on something? OF COURSE! I was there to find out and know more so I said yes and was happy to wait if I could gain insight or anything!

So I sat in the waiting room. And as I sat there I realized that I could hear some of the cases that were going up to the window after me to see the clerk – one of them really grabbed my attention…

There was a son and a father and they were filing for their wife/perhaps sister-in-law/daugher-in-law to have her green card revoked!!!  I heard the words fraud and estrangement in the mix!! Some serious stuff! They were at the clerk desk for a really long time! Sadly it was in and out of being fully audible but at one point the officer said that no one could force someone to get and stay married! I wish I had sat closer to have got the scoop on that case – it could have been my live soap opera to pass the time!

Then I got called up again to be seen by another woman, not the woman who interviewed me who I thought I was waiting for. She said she had my file. She asked if I have travelled since my arrival back to the US in September 2011 and how many countries I was a citizen of and if I have ever had a problem with having 3 passports after I said UK, Australia and Greece – nope, never had a problem which she understood as I said I was born in London and my dad was Greek and my mum Australian. I said I had not flown as I haven’t and mentioned that I hadn’t because I thought I was not supposed to – which she confirmed. Can you imagine if all this time I could have flown or something!!

Anyway, she said she was going to look at my file and to have a seat again as she would probably be another half hour or so. No problem, I said.

Back to waiting again – and yet another fascinating case I got to watch! This time it was a guy that literally got up 5 times in 5 minutes to go to the windows to make sure someone was working on his inquiry!! It was hilarious watching him as he went to all three of the clerks and back again. He just could not sit still but to me that only made him look more nervous and thus suspicious!

I was busy watching him when my name  was called again only a few minutes later and guess what???????????????????

I GOT APPROVED!!!!!!!!!

YUP!!!!!!

She said Congratulations and that she had approved my Green Card application!! She was able to adjudicate my case right there and approved me in the system, on the spot! She stamped my passport with a temporary Green Card until mine comes in the mail as it could be a while to receive it so am now eligible to travel and work with this stamp!!!

WOOOOOOOO-HOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

Right before my name was called though, I watched how this other woman got up to use the stamp in with the clerk and I heard her say to him that my interviewer must have not got around to it!! Which I didn’t know meant anything but then she called my name, so in over-hearing that, and if that is really true – then that implies that it simply came down to my interviewer not touching my case, not getting around to it!!…since March 26th when I had the interview….so no security check issue or anything as nothing was ever mentioned about that to me today….so all that drama for nothing!!

Well, whatever, now I don’t care about the details as I got it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Guess it was a good thing I kept my appointment and went in to inquire 🙂

I had a screening at the hospital today so was up at St. Luke’s Roosevelt near Columbus Circle and as these things go your appointment time kind of means nothing or you should add an hour to the time they give you. So, as predicted I was in the waiting room for a very looooooong time! With super pregnant people left right and center! And babies. And pregnant women. And babies!

So, as everyone around me kept being called it crossed my mind that I should maybe try to record a sneaky video upload somehow. Every time I was about to turn on my ipod someone else came in or the nurse came in to call a name out. It was just soooooo busy! And this idea didn’t cross my mind until about an hour had passed already and I had won solitaire on my phone twice! So I was afraid of going somewhere to sneak a video in case they called my name.

Ahhhhh.

My adrenalin was pumping but…..just couldn’t! Boo! I felt like I shouldn’t. I needed a Jackass TV crew to do something for me or something!

Good thing is I have a few more appointments to go up there so maybe I will have to dare myself to do something! 🙂

I should have, now that I think about it, recorded the crazy “mis-behaving” of the thing inside me I was watching on the screen above during my ultrasound screening! The baby would not stay still for them to take measurements!!

Surreal watching it move around like that!!!!!!!
